Reconciliation Action Plan

Unison offices are located on the lands of the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, and Wathaurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their cultures and to Elders past, present and emerging.
In June 2025, Unison’s Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) was formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia: an important milestone in our reconciliation journey. This endorsement recognises our commitment to building culturally safe, inclusive services and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
As a housing provider operating on Aboriginal land, Unison recognises that reconciliation is not a one-off initiative, it’s a long-term responsibility. Our Reflect RAP sets out the foundational steps to embed reconciliation into our culture, systems and service delivery. We are committed to listening deeply to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander renters, staff and community members, and to ensuring their voices shape how we work. Reconciliation is a shared responsibility across our organisation, and we focused on building respectful relationships, creating opportunities, and fostering a workplace that values First Nations knowledge, histories and leadership.
What we delivered in FY2024-25
Last financial year, we laid strong foundations for reconciliation across our organisation:
- RAP Working Group: we established a Working Group with representatives from across Unison, including Executive, Communications, Property, and Housing and Homelessness teams. The group has driven internal engagement, coordinated cultural learning, and championed reconciliation initiatives.
- Unison Artwork: We commissioned a bespoke artwork by proud Wirangu artist Bianka Carson (pictured above). Her piece, titled Unison, symbolises the journey from individuals to connected communities. It now features on the cover of our Reflect RAP and serves as a visual reminder of our commitment to reconciliation.
- We strengthened relationships with First Nations organisations including with Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation (Ngwala) through our work at Make Room, where 46% of renters identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. We also looked at ways we can support First Nations organisations next financial year, including attending and promoting events internally, and using First Nations suppliers for catering, printing and communications related to our RAP activities.
Looking ahead
We’re proud of the progress we made in FY2024-25, and we’re committed to building on this momentum. Next financial year, we’ll continue embedding reconciliation across Unison by delivering the key actions outlined in our Reflect RAP.
