Our Reconciliation Journey

Acknowledgement of Country

Unison offices are located on the lands of the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, and Wathaurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their cultures and to Elders past, present and emerging.

We are listening and learning

Unison is committed to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; we recognise their enduring connection to Country and aim to deliver housing services that culturally safe and inclusive. Building trust and working together is central to how we plan to grow and improve.

Our journey begins with listening to the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander renters, staff and community members to understand their experiences, challenges, and aspirations.  These insights will help shape how we work, our internal culture and help us realise our vision of creating communities that thrive.

Unison’s Reflect RAP

In 2025, Unison’s Reflect RAP was endorsed by Reconciliation Australia. It outlines the steps required to embed reconciliation into our operations, including how we engage with First Nations peoples and deliver housing and homelessness services.

The artwork Unison by Bianka Carson, a proud Wirangu artist, represents our journey from individuals to connected communities. Unison reminds us that reconciliation is not a single act, but an ongoing journey of coming together with respect and purpose.

The Journey to Come

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility across Unison — from our frontline staff to our leadership team. We are committed to deepening our understanding of First Nations cultures, histories and knowledge, and embedding this awareness into everything we do.

By continuing to listen, learn and reflect, we aim to improve how we support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples engaging with our services and renting our properties. We recognise that this is just the beginning of our reconciliation journey, and we look forward to walking alongside First Nations communities with respect, purpose and accountability.
