A letter to us from Erika
Recently we received a wonderful letter from a tenant and community champion, who in addition to a whole host of community initiatives, organises a delicious Christmas lunch for the tenants at Kensington. Here is her letter.
I am Erika Lodge, the President of the 78 Seniors Club and Unison Tenant Advisory Group member and I live in the Kensington High Rise. It gives me great pleasure to write this letter.
I have come across and am in close contact with a genuine family who understands "humanitarian", especially with those less fortunate than themselves. My story begins 2 days before Christmas 2017.
The 78 Seniors Club put on Christmas lunch at the Community Hub at Kensington where residents can enjoy a meal, and each others company. As a rule we get vegetables and meat through Second Bite (a food rescue service) but on this occasion Second Bite had moved and they didn't do any deliveries.
Mike (a neighbor who loves close to the Kensington Estate) has helped the Club with Second Bite orders, picked up our order but sorry to say we didn't get any meat in the order! One hour later Ann (Mike's partner) and Mike turned up with meat for our Christmas lunch which they purchased and donated. Not only did they donate this gift but they helped to decorate the Hub on Christmas Day.
Plus on Christmas Day the whole family, Ann, Mike and their son Alistair helped with setting the tables, preparing the food, serving and doing the dishes.
It was great to receive such a gift on this special occasion!
Thank you Ann, Mike and Alistair. Thank heaven humanity isn't dead.
And let's not forget Newton's Pharmacy and the Kensington Scout Group. Our local pharmacy has been supporting our Kensington Christmas lunch for many years and donated a lovely big hamper as a door prize. The Kensington Scouts donated our Christmas tree. Thank you Newton's Pharmacy and the Scout Group.
What a great community we live in!
Erika
