Appointment of James King as CEO, effective from Thursday, 1 October
“James' leadership has been exemplary while acting as CEO over the last six months, steering the organisation through the challenges of Covid-19 while setting a strong vision for the future”, reflected Ian McHutchison, Chair of the Board.
In a short period of time, James King has established his expertise in the sector, and was nominated as a board member of CHIA VIC, a community housing peak body.
James joined Unison in 2019 as Director of Property Development, and has managed the acquisition, sale and construction of large projects for Unison.
Reflecting on his appointment, James said: "Leading the largest community housing provider in Victoria over the past 6 months in the acting CEO role has been the most rewarding time of my career. I am excited by the opportunity to continue as CEO. There is widespread recognition in the community of the need to provide greater opportunities for safe, secure and affordable housing. Unison is uniquely placed to provide support and pathways from disadvantage and house the people who need it most.”
Under James and his executive team’s leadership, Unison has provided support to a record number of people at risk of or experiencing homelessness through the Initial Assessment and Planning and the Private Rental Assistance programs in the West, launched a brand new 54 self-contained unit building in West Melbourne and oversaw a large program of capital works to increase quality and amenity of existing properties.
“The board is looking forward to working with James to deliver on Unison’s new Strategic Plan and ongoing vision and mission” said Ian McHutchison.
