New homes for Wyndham's rough sleepers
Unison is a member of the H3 Wyndham Alliance, made up pf nine local agencies and the Wyndham City Council. The Alliance has been established to address housing vulnerability by increasing housing supply, provding support and addressing issues that lead to housing vulnerability for people living in the Wyndham community.
Unison together with cohealth and Bolton Clarke Homeless Persons Program have been funded to purchase and provide 12 permanent affordable homes, combined with intensive support and health services for long term rough sleepers in Wyndham. Our Asset Team have played a key role in so far purchasing 10 of the 12 homes. Our Place Management team have worked swiftly on the tenant referral and selection process. We will have people moving in to their homes before Christmas and expect to have all homes purchased and tenanted in early 2018.
Unison has also secured funds to purpose build a youth accommodation service in partnership with Melbourne City Mission and to increase the size of our homelessness service and Private Rental Access Program team in Wyndham.
In addition to providing additional permanent homes and housing support, the H3 Alliance delivers and leverages wrap around services including health, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, legal, financial, emergency food, family violence and youth support.
This collaborative and place based approach not only strengthens local service support and timely and efficient responses, but also strengthens referral pathways and networks and builds community awareness of needs and local services.
